What Have I Done??

As you may recall, unless you're fairly new to this blog, I made a list for my 40th year of goals and nuggets of goodness I'd like to achieve. Some are whimsical and totally for the fun of it, some are more practical and good for my health and well-being and some are life-long dreams.

It has been almost two months since the blessed 40th birthday and my posting of the List. I thought I'd update you on what I've accomplished thus far.

*Become more organized: Happily I have rearranged my front room, which also happens to be my craft stash area, it's much more organized, cleaner and I like the layout. It is a small, narrow room that once used to be a porch until someone decided to turn it into a room. Sometimes it's a challenge to keep it clean, organized, comfy and suitable to be the first room you see in my house.

*Take an unexpected fun trip: I did this, as you might recall, back in May. I went to Whidbey to visit my lovely family and had a truly wonderful time and it was quite unexpected.

*Be more spontaneous: I am really trying to be more random and not worrying so much about planning every little detail of every day. Instead, I am trying to allow myself to enjoy everything I'm doing and not feel as though, I've got to rush to the next thing, simply because it's on my list.

*Add some low-lights to my hair: Wow, I did this too, while in Whidbey. My sister is a cosmetologist and fabulous at it. She did a bit of low-lighting on my hair and I've had many compliments...thank you, thank you!! Weirdly, I didn't know how to spell cosmetologist, I've always thought I was a good speller, but what do ya know, I was wrong. It is an odd word. You'd think they would study stars, not do hair/nails/make-up!! Hmmmm.....

*Help plan my daughter's wedding: Went dress shopping with her and we're working on details with her almost daily. Can I just say..Holy Cow!! Oh and more about this later! :)

*Enjoy every day, every moment, stop thinking about what's next and focus on now: I've been much better at this recently, as I've realized that today is what I have right now and I can't and don't want to spend my day worrying about tomorrow. But I will blog more about this later, as I have received a wonderful little book I want to share with you.

Well, that's about it so far....still working on that 40 lbs. thing, darn it! I am getting there, one small ounce at a time. Did you notice I updated my weight on the sidelines? It hasn't changed, only the date did, but at least it isn't more. Until next post, my dearies, always look
on the bright side of life!!

Craft It Forward

Good times and goodies to be had!!
This is a simple idea that is basically like Pay It Forward.
If you love to randomly receive nuggets of goodness in
your mailbox from bloggers who make handy little crafts, than this is for you!
The rules are simple:
1. Make a groovy little comment to this post...such as: what fabulous thing did you do for the 4th of July, or what is your favorite handmade item to make with your own two hands. The first 3 sweeties to post and then Craft it Forward, meaning to commit to doing the same thing on their blog, will randomly receive a handmade goody from me. Please leave me a way to contact you, such as your email address and as soon as I see you've posted to your blog, I will get in touch and find out how to send you a bit of fun!!
2. Remember, it doesn't have to be a hand knit sweater, you're not committing yourself to 50 hours of labor to do this. Make something simple and sweet, no need to overwhelm yourself. Just have fun with it. I'm really looking forward to it, I think it's going to be fun and I have a few ideas in mind already! Hooray!
Hope to hear from you soon!!
Thank you, Handmade by Jess for the fun idea!!
BTW: Our 4th of July was fantastic. We have a traditional celebration every year. We go out to the lake and reserve a private area with swings, a stairway down to the dock and a ramada with picnic tables. We decorate it with fun red, white and blue decor and my mother always brings some festive buttons to pin on, as well as, groovy necklaces with stars. Everyone brings an abundance of food and fireworks. The kids swim in the lake (some of them fully clothed) and some remember to bring a swimsuit and a towel. Others go for a little row around the lake in the canoe (me and my husband and yes my arms are sore). We swing, play games, play music, chatter on with people we see about once a year and then when the sky begins to darken, we set off the fireworks, sparklers...anything we can light!! :D It's been a wonderful tradition that we all look forward to every year. This year turned out to be especially wonderful, because it rained all morning and cooled everything off. What a blessing!!
I'm rambling now! Hope to hear from you dearies, I can't wait to make something especially for you, it'll be soooo fun!!

Encouragement

Encourage: To inspire with hope, courage, or confidence; hearten. To give support to; foster. To stimulate.

This is the definition from my old dictionary, actually it was my husband's dictionary from college, but that's beside the point.

I love looking up words and seeing their true meanings. I like that this word basically means to give courage to another person. To help them to boldly step out and go where no man has gone before, or at least to encourage them not to eat another 2 lb. bag of M&M's. (who me, I would never do such a thing)

I was reading this morning and came across this little blip.

"All of us need encouragement-somebody to believe in us. To reassure and reinforce us. To help us pick up the pieces and go on. To provide us with increased determination in spite of the odds.

When you stop to analyze the concept, "encourage" takes on new meaning. It's the act of inspiring others with renewed courage, spirit, hope.

The beautiful part about encouragement is this: Anybody can do it. "

Strengthening Your Grip by Charles Swindoll

So today, I want to encourage you my friends. Go out there and go boldly. Stick to what you've begun or start again, if needed. Look back over your list of goals you've written down and have desired to achieve and begin today to achieve them. Jump back on your exercise or diet plan, it doesn't matter that you ate 10 lbs. of food at the 4th of July BBQ. Today is a new day, a new week. You can do it and so can I. Call your girlfriend and head out for a walk. Take your kids to the park and swing with them or go to the pool and do a few laps. Eat fruit. Watermelon is everywhere. And while you're out there, encourage those around you. It feels good!!

Have a wonderful, blissful, productive day!!!

A Good Day!

Yesterday was a good day!

1. I took my boys to go visit their friends for the week, they'll come back Friday. Their leaving isn't what makes it good, I just enjoyed the 2 hour drive with them, they're really funny and I am happy they get to go hang out with good friends, they need that.

2. I went to the library for a presentation by a friend of mine on How to Illustrate A Children's Book. It was awesome and inspiring and reminded me that I truly desire to achieve that in my lifetime. Tim Raglin is the author/illustrator of several books, including one of my faves... Uncle Mugsy and the Terrible Twins of Christmas. His illustrations are phenomenal. You can check him out at timraglin.com. He rocks!

3. I got to go hang out with my friend Jackie, who is also rather inspiring and is always working on some amazing art project. She is the one with the fantastic blocks. I love them and she has designed a new set. We had a great time chatting, oh and she's the one who made the supremely, divine chocolate cake....yum, yum!

4. I came home and got to hang out with my daughter and chat with her about various happenings in our day and wedding plans for the future. It was lovely to spend time with her, these days it's a rare treat. I thoroughly enjoy her company and miss the days of her reading to me, while I knit some random item. Each moment with her is cherished.

5. And lastly, Marie called me. We haven't had time to chat lately, so it was a wonderful surprise to see her number pop up on my caller i.d. yay! As always, she makes me laugh and encourages me in everything. Friends are a true blessing. What would we do without them??

Hope you have a truly inspired and lovely day!

Carrots with a cherry on top!!

Bicycle, bicycle....I want to ride my bicycle.

Do you love riding your bike? I haven't gotten out on mine in awhile, but my son encouraged me the other day and we pulled them out, dusted them off, pumped up the semi-flatish tires and off we went. Bike riding is a kick....in the bootee. My bum was sore for a few days, I'm pretty sure there is a bruise on both cheeks. Bicycle seats (I believe) are made for small bums, not fat bottom girls that make the rockin' world go round....like me!! I considered buying a couple of rolls of Charmin and wrapping them around the bicycle seat or at the very least stuffing wads of it in my pants, (this always works in the commercials) but I've yet to try it out. At any rate, if you want to work on your buns and thighs, I highly recommend riding your bike, at least every other day. My legs were so wobbly after only ten minutes, I knew it must be working, the exercise thing, that is!

And now a story!!

About 4 or 5 years ago, my kids and I liked to get out and ride our bikes down the nearby dirt road. I love these kinds of adventures. I say adventure, because seriously, me + wheels = adventure. In all of my memories of bicycle riding, I don't think I've ever been 100% confident in my riding, or stopping. I attribute this to the fact that I'm rather short and my feet don't always easily reach the ground when I sit down. Anyway, back to my story.....
so, we were out one day for a leisurely stroll down the country lane, when we realized a car was coming. Being the good mom that I am, I quickly motioned for everyone to move to the side of the road and wait for the car to pass (my kids were younger then). Of course, I pulled over too, but somehow in my anxiousness and the sudden awareness that a car was coming and we were on the spot, my bike and I (completely out of the blue) fell over. The pressure of knowing I was being watched was a bit too much for me, I guess. But to make matters worse and even more humiliating, the person backed up (which means they saw me fall over) to ask me if I was okay.
Of course, when she rolls down the window I see that she's a cute young lady, which seemed to make it even more humiliating, although a hunky young guy would've taken the cake. I had no real reason for falling over, so I sat there stunned and not knowing what to say, probably with a "duh" kind of look on my face. She must've realized I was alright, because she left. I wonder how many people she told that day. We live in a smallish town and there aren't that many extremely short redheads, that I know of.

Anyway, I survived that bit of humiliation and I still get out and ride my bicycle. I know it burns
a lot of calories, which means that extremely rich, yummy, homemade chocolate cake I ate today could be burned off tomorrow morning. Goodness knows, I don't need to carry that around in my saddle bags. So, my goal is to ride my bike more often...hopefully every other day and become more expertly at it, or a little less clumsy anyway. If you have a bike and it isn't 400 degrees outside, I encourage you to jump on and go for a bit of a ride. Seize the Day!!!

Cat Tales

This is Foo Foo Kitty. He is our indoor/outdoor cat, sometimes he can't make up his mind where he wants to be. We raised him from a wee kitty, even bottle fed him every few hours. We love him to pieces, even though he is fairly odd. My daughter and I have a theory about him. We're pretty certain, he was meandering through the woods one day (in human form) and happened upon a grumpy witch, who then cursed him and turned him into a cat, until by some off chance we can come up with the right words to say to turn him back. We believe he does the odd things he does, because he is desperately trying to communicate with us and give us some sort of sign.

He does a lot of non-catlike things and many human type things. He's klutzy, misses furniture entirely when jumping for it, he plays the piano, loves to go swimming......in fact, he loves water.
He will stand in the sink while I'm trying to do dishes, sit in the shower while we're in it and he plays with his water. He has a water dish, which we try to keep filled, but that never seems to be what he wants. He prefers water straight from the tap. He knows how to push the button on the Culligan machine and he gets up on the sink for a drink. In the mornings, while my hub gets ready for work, Foo Foo keeps him company and my hub puts a bit of water in the bathroom sink for him. Last night my daughter came home and saw the cat drinking out of the toilet. She thought that was gross, so she put a bit of water in the sink and came in to say hello. Apparently, he's been paying attention....while she was out of the room, Foo Foo decided just one sink wasn't enough, so he figured out how to turn on all of the faucets....FULL BLAST!! In a matter of minutes, that adds up to a very large amount of water. When she returned to brush her teeth, the bathroom had become Niagara Falls. We have three drawers. The first one filled with water, then overflowed into the next, then the next one. There was about an inch of water on the floor. Every towel in the house had to be used to mop it all up. And the cat, nowhere to be found, he magically disappeared for the evening. I did see him once today, but I think he's feeling a bit guilty or maybe he thinks it's really funny and doesn't want me to see him laughing.

The moral to my story:
Don't let your cat see you turn on the faucet, he's smarter than you think!

Are you a Gooser??

I certainly am. I grew up in a family of goosers. Every time you walk by someone you give their little cheeks a squeeze and I don't mean the cheeks on their face. I only write about this, because this morning I noticed, that every time I passed by my teenage son, he was slightly bent over, checking out something on his brother's computer and I couldn't help myself, I did it without even thinking, it's a reflex. (and probably not one he appreciates, although he didn't even flinch)

This led me to another thought process. Tight buns!! They're highly overrated. If you have nice, tight buns, there is nothing to grab on to, no squeezability, nothing to pad you when you fall down or sit upon a knee. This is good news, for those of us who dread doing an overwhelming amount of squats, so that we can sport a nice pair of clenched cheeks, that look highly unnatural.

I mean afterall, I believe we were given a little extra padding there for a reason. Even if that reason is simply, to be goosed by those who love you and adore you, no matter how cheeky you are.

A Glimpse

Where have I been all these weeks, you might be asking. Busy, busy, busy! I hate to say it, but when I get that busy, all things fall to the wayside. Including, my exercise and watching what I eat. Oh woe is me. Tis a sad, sad thing. I've talked to Marie, who as you may know, is rather encouraging and came to the realization that it's okay and I can start blogging again, and my absence will be forgiven.
My apologies, I hate to let anyone down or disappoint, and I fear my lack of diet and exercise has added a couple of pounds to my mid-section. When I say, woe is me, I really mean WHOA!!! Especially, every time I get a glimpse of myself in the mirror. There is far more of me than I want to see. So, dearies....it's time to get back on track, or I simply won't be able to live with myself. I exercised this morning and I intend to really pay attention to all that enters my mouth, no more darn Jalapeno Cheetos, (I'm pretty sure they have 5 million calories) no more chocolate chip cookies, more water and less diet soda. I didn't post my current weight, humiliations galore...I hope you'll forgive me. How about I work hard this week, and I will for sure post my weight, next Monday. :)
As for, where have I been....my husband and a couple of friends of ours are getting ready to open a Youth Coffeehouse/Venue, everyday has been a whirlwind, mostly in paint for me. The pictures I posted are of a couple of the walls we painted. The walls are 14 feet high, so they take time and you'd think all the up and down on the ladder would've been good exercise, but a bad diet didn't help. Busyness is truly a deterrent for getting in shape. I tend to allow everything else to become more important. No more, I say. The time has come!
My apologies for my extreme absence,
Have a most pleasant day!!

There's No Place Like Home

Hello Dearies,
Wow, I must say, it seems as though it's been simply forever since
my last blog.
The trip was rather enjoyable, as well as, ultra relaxing. I had
a blast with all of my siblings and we spent most of our time laughing.
A good way to spend time, if you ask me. I wonder how many calories that
burns. Probably not enough to make up for all of the good food we ate. :(
Each of my siblings are great cooks, we had Mexican food one night....divine,
my brother made us the most amazing pasta another night. (He pureed all the
chunks for me, and OOOOH, it was fantastico!!) I have to give that a try.
Speaking of trying, I did manage a couple of bites of asparagus....of all
things, funny eh? It wasn't half bad. It tasted a bit like a big green
bean, or maybe it was the Jolly Green Giant, something like that.
I am tempted to buy some and give it a wee bit of attention. I hear it's
good for you, too!
I have to apologize, I don't have trip pictures to post just yet. I am in the
process of trying to figure out what in the hoobydoo I did with my cord
(you know the one that connects camera to computer). Somehow it has
grown legs and run away. Maybe it went to Oz too! I promise to post a few, a.s.a.p.
Although everything about my trip was amazing and spectacular. I am
quite excited to be back home. I missed my family, going for walks and
weirdly, just the daily routine of my life. Absence truly makes the heart
grow fonder. Seriously, there's no place like home!!
Time for my evening walk, it's getting rather dark, I may just be circling my driveway a few times. Poop! My moment of opportunity has passed me by.

Can't wait to share pictures with you.
Have a splendid evening! I've missed you, my dearies.

Click your heels together and say....

Off To See The Wizard

Hello my Fellow Blog Buddies,
I have to apologize for the lack of blogging. A serious amount of
life happening right now and I am try to keep my head above the water. Nothing bad,
just extreme busyness. Which sadly, has kept me from keeping track of
myself in the exercise, eating healthy realm.
Busyness seems to be my number one enemy when it comes to taking
better care of myself. I tend to drop that first in my list
of things to do, when I'm overwhelmed.
You may have noticed I haven't updated my weigh in yet this week and I
have to say, I would rather wait til I get back from my trip, and
try to regroup. I need a moment to rethink everything and come
at it all from a different angle/mindset, or possibly with a
fresh, well rested and lots of giggles mind. (this all happening
on my trip)
Lots to do yet, before I head off to see the Wizard. I better
scoot and get after it.
Have a wonderful week and I will get back to you next week.

Keep your buns moving, if possible!

Happy Day!

An Unexpected Trip

On my 40 Things list, I put, Take an unexpected fun trip.
Well, guess what? I am taking that unexpected fun trip, this week!
I leave on Thursday to go visit my 3 sisters and 1 brother.
It's been two years since we were all together. I always have such
a blast when I get together with them. They're a lot of fun.
My dad lives there too, (Whidbey Island) and decided that
he would fly me out for my birthday. Hooray! My brother lives
in Italy, so we don't get to see him that often.
I am looking forward to this trip, it's going to be great.
But that means, I probably won't post for a few days. I will
definitely let you know when I get back though. I hope to get out
and walk as much as possible while I'm there. It is truly
beautiful there. Maybe even go to the beach, although it may
be a bit chilly yet. Either way, I will take photos and keep
track of every exciting moment.

Inspired

Have you ever played blocks with your children, or even by yourself?
You probably recall the wooden block set, that was filled with squares,
rectangles, arches and pillars. I loved playing with blocks, building
all sorts of cool places, but I have to say I had always wished there
was a bit more to them.
My friend Jackie is an amazing and inspiring artist. I love all that she
creates. It's unique and whimsical and a lot of times, three-dimensional.
She has created a fantastic set of blocks that has a picture on every side.
Sometimes it's a staircase or a detailed window or a plant. No matter
which way you turn the blocks, there is something there. They are
magnificent. It makes me want to sit on the floor and create wonderful
houses. The possibilities are endless.
If you would like to check out her site and see all of her wonderful
creations, this is her web address:
http://www.jacquelinehaltom.com/Site/index.html
Enjoy perusing her site and get inspired from the imaginative,
creative way she works with paper, ink, and any sort of three-dimensional
item she can find.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Go Bananas!

Bananas!! A recent study has shown that
bananas have quite a bit of health benefits.
Some of the health issues eating a banana or two can help with:
Depression
P.M.S.
Anemia
Blood Pressure
Brain Power
Constipation
Hang Overs
Heartburn
Morning Sickness
Nerves
Overweight
and that is just to name a few. There are more! With so many health
benefits, I think we should all go a little bananas. If like me,
you're not too keen on peeling a banana and sticking it in your mouth,
due to funky texture issues, you can turn it into a fabulous smoothie.

This is a recipe shared with me by Marie.
I've altered it a bit and I also add Kale for green benefits,
since salads are out of the question.
I call this little concoction

Green Chunky Monkey's
(it's more interesting for the kids)

1-2 bananas (depending on how much you want to make)
ice, ice baby (a few cubes)
frozen strawberries (about 5-6)
1/4-1/2 cup of water
a couple of stalks of kale, broken off the whole bunch
1/2 tsp. of coconut flavoring (adds yummy)

Put the water in your blender, then the ice and crush or grind, whatever works for you. Add the strawberries, and crush again until fairly smoothish. Add in the Kale, until nice and smooth, then toss in the coconut. Now add the banana, this will actually hide the Kale flavor and make the smoothie more creamy..(yum).
Pour in a glass and your ready for a good, healthy breakfast or treat!

Other add ins: orange juice (instead of water), yogurt for more creaminess, other flavorings that you prefer and of course other fruits. Play with it and have fun!
Have a healthy, happy and wonderful day!

Picky?

Have you ever noticed that the word Picky is typically associated with children? Don't children become adults? Where have all the once Picky Children gone? Am I alone in my freakish dislike for funky textures and fears that with a name like Asparagus, it can't possibly taste good? I'm not sure where this pickyness came from, both of my parents eat healthy foods, my mother is an excellent cook, who always served well balanced, made from scratch meals.
I am determined to try new foods, healthy foods, I know I can do it.

After browsing through several sites and finding that most everything is geared toward picky little tots, toddlers and kids, I finally found a site that I think is going to suit me quite nicely.
http://allrecipes.com
If you've never checked out this site, I encourage you to do so. It's quite fantastic. You can type in ingredients you want and don't want, find a recipe for just about anything and the rating it received, as well as, the nutritional value of the recipe, ie: calories, fat grams, fiber, etc. Also, if the recipe is set for 2 people and you are feeding 8, it will calculate the measurements for you. Wowee!!
It's definitely a very well organized site and from what I've seen so far, I'm quite impressed and looking forward to checking out a few new recipes. I am in need of a good grocery shopping, so I will start by picking out a few new recipes, so I can be sure to put the ingredients on my list. Oh, happy day!

Stay On Track!

Somehow, the week flies by and at the end of it I look back and think Oh yea, wasn't I supposed to be doing that (insert new goal or challenge here) all week. Apparently, I am somewhat forgetful. This week's goal, write down the goals I have made so far and post them in a handy spot, so I will see them daily and remember what it is I am working on. Printing out my list of habits I want to change and new habits I want to develop, as well as the weekly challenges will help me to keep these at the front of my mind. I've always been a pretty good multi-tasker and once I write something down I typically remember it, but lately I am feeling a bit scattered. Eating healthy will hopefully help with that too.
My Challenge for this Week, write out your goals/habits that you want to fulfill for the week and post it where you'll see it.
Changing years and years worth of bad habits, isn't as easy as I hoped it would be.
This could take a while. It's a good thing I have the 40 Year, a little less pressure. By the way, counting down now.... 40 in 30 hours and 10 minutes. Oh my!!

Powerless

I have to apologize for the fact that Friday is almost over and I'm just now putting my TGIF post. We had quite a storm last night (actually very early this morning) and we were without power, pretty much all day. But I suppose, better late than never.
With Mother's Day right around the corner, I decided to make something for my mom. This is a fairly quick project and I thought I would share it with you. I used only what I had, which usually requires me to be more creative. I find with so many fabrics on hand, it's silly for me to go out and purchase more. The only thing I had to purchase for this project was the stuffing, which I was fresh out of. I haven't finished the project, due to the lack of electricity, but I will get it done quickly in the morning. I'm almost there. Oh, I suppose I should get back to what I'm doing.
This will be a decorative pillow. My mom has a wonderful antique wooden church pew in her sitting room and when I last visited her, I noticed it was in need of something. When thinking about what I could do for her, this project came to mind. I used fabrics that match the colors in her room and I chose the word Gratitude, because I am very grateful for my mother. I took a piece of muslin fabric, wrote the word gratitude with a fabric marker (the kind that erases after a bit) then cut off the edges, 2 inches out from the first and last letters. (Take a moment to decide about how big you want your pillow to be) I then picked out two complimentary fabrics I thought would go well with her room, and cut them into strips and sewed them around the edges of the muslin. (be creative in this area, when I have made one of these before I did a few fabrics and cut them in various sizes and pieced them together for a more scrappy look) I then cut out some batting (you could also use felt or flannel) and a piece of scrap fabric for the back. I pinned them together and did a basic straight stitch for the letters, in a dark, doubled thread. I used a button for the i, but you could also do applique' or something else creative. I then quilted a 1/4 inch straight line around the seams, for added cuteness, and if I hadn't procrastinated, I would have done something a bit more whimsical for the quilting...such as stars or swirlies. My next step (now that I have the power) will be to cut off the rough edges, and sew on the back piece of the pillow. Cut out your back fabric the same size as the front piece (you can also piece together some bits of fabric) and put your right sides together then sew up three sides, leaving one of the short ends open. Turn it right side out, pulling out the corners, then stuff with fluff. I am using poly-fil (I bought two bags, I'm not sure how much it will take) then blind stitch up the open edge. Voila, you're done. A quick little gift that has your own unique, fun flair to it.
Other words you can use: Simplify, Joy, Love, Peace, Grace. A great way to get your word onto your fabric is to find a font you like on your computer, make it the size you want, then print it out in black. Tape the paper to a window (during the day) then put your muslin (or other light fabric) over it and trace the word with a washable fabric pen. This is a great way to get the lettering you like. Or if you're like me, you can just wing it and make it up as you go. :D
If you have any questions, let me know.
Again, I hate to be so late getting this to you. I did time myself though, and altogether it's only taken me 2 hours. I have probably an hour more of work to do, and I'll be done. My total cost: Approx. $5.00 for the fluff. Not bad!
Have a Wonderful Mother's Day!

Hum Ditty

When I up, down, touch the ground
Puts me in the mood.
Up, down, touch the ground,
In the mood (smack your lips) for food.
I am short, round and I have found
Speaking poundage wise,
I improve my appetite,
When I exercise!

If you're a lover of Winnie the Pooh, you probably recognize that little ditty.
Pooh and I, think alike! We're both simple minded and stuffed with fluff.
I must agree with him too. The more I exercise, the more I feel as though, I really deserve that Peanut Buster Parfait. There's something wrong with this picture.
I'm not sure there's enough miles, to walk off a Peanut Buster Parfait.
I haven't found an alternative to that tasty treat, but I promise you, I will.
When I do, you'll be the first to know.
Darn you ice-cream, peanuts and especially you...HOT FUDGE!!

I better go for a walk.

Carrots and Ice-Cream, I mean low-fat yogurt.

Hosta La Vista, Baby!

As I stepped out the door this morning, I was faced with this beauty of a plant. The dew drops perching on the leaves. I have come to the conclusion, that I love Hostas. They are simple and sweet. They require little to no effort. They're hardy. (good, when you have animals) They come back bigger and better every year. They grow nicely in the shade. I am going to plant more of these babies. They're quite lovely and lovable. Don't even get me started on Peonies....you'll probably get an earful or at least an eyeful of those too!

Happy Gardening!

Progress

I thought I would show you what progress looks like.
This is it, my birthday present to me. It's a bit slow in the
workings, but I am getting there. I have only to make the triangle
parts of the stars, put those blocks together, add a border and off
to the quilt guy. Woohoo! I could quite possibly have that
beauty lying on my bed by mid June. Of course, the Americana quilt that is there now, will have to come back out for the month of July.
I love coming to the end of a project and it's even more exciting to know that
I will get to enjoy the fruits of my labor. yippee and hip hip hooray!!

I'm In Love With John

Deere that is!
Would it be wrong if I put on a polka-dotted bikini and laid on the hood of my mower? Don't worry dearies, I won't do it, I don't want to be responsible for you needing therapy. Although someday, I may show up in an issue of Tractor Babes! (you never know)

As the rain stopped for an entire day, the grass dried a wee bit, John and
I set out on our long awaited date. He was a perfect gentlemen. In and out of the trees we frolicked and he was always smooth and on the cutting edge. He even hummed quietly while I talked on the phone. How wonderful it was to spend time together finally, oh the sweet memory of it. Alas, our time was cut short. The rain began again and although I was perfectly happy to be in the rain, he said, "No, my dear, I don't want you to catch cold." He sweetly kissed my cheeks (wink) and we said farewell.
Til next time, my love!

Weight!

You may have noticed, I am now going to post my weekly weigh-in, in the side-lines. I think it'll be a quick way to show whether I've improved or failed... :(
Obviously, this week's weight falls under the FAILED category! WAAAAAA!!! I'm thinking the lack of daily walking last week is showing, with feeding farm animals, you'd think that would've made up for it, but apparently not. And the rest of the time, it seemed to be continuously storming, so walking did not happen. Exercise didn't happen much. At my age, it's a must. Oh, and that bag of Flaming Hot Cheetos, I am pretty sure that didn't help the cause either. Have I told you my husband works for Frito-Lay? Being surrounded by all sorts of snacky things, can really hinder the healthy eating. This is why a meal plan would be most helpful.
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....okay, I know I can and I am going to have a productive and fabulous week! I hope you will too!!! :)

p.s. yes that is a full body picture of me, yikes!

An Attitude of Gratitude

This week's challenge for you dearies, and for myself, is to begin keeping a Gratitude Journal. I have been reading a book called, Thanks! by Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D., and I have thoroughly enjoyed this book.
To have a grateful outlook on life, has some serious health benefits, and actually leads to a longer more fulfilled life.
This is a concept that I think most people already know, but it's so easy to get caught up in our lives and get frustrated and spend more time complaining or worrying than looking at the all of the positives and blessings we have. At least, I know this is definitely true for me.
So, my challenge this week is to spend more time reflecting on the positives and truly appreciating what I have, rather than focusing on what I don't have, or comparing myself to the world and wishing I had longer, leaner legs, or a nice tight, firm butt. :)
Don't worry, it doesn't mean I'm giving up on the exercise and healthier eating, I'm just going to have a better attitude about it.
Keep your journal entries simple, I know there are days when it's difficult to feel grateful (hopefully this isn't often), but something as simple as, I am grateful for our tree swing, the rope is long and so it makes the ride very smooth and it's a wonderful place to sit or swing, when I just want a moment to myself or feel the breeze in my hair.
I am planning to continue this challenge, I feel it will be beneficial in all ways.
Have a beautiful day!! :D

Flapping Undies

A Tip of Frugalness.
In these times of tightening our budgets and pinching our pennies, here's a simple way to keep some of those pennies in your pocket.
With Summer coming our way quickly, the warmer weather and sunshine is something you can take advantage of. If you have the space, hanging your clothes out to dry can save you approximately .75 cents per load. I typically do 2 to 3 loads per day, 5 days per week. That's a savings of $7.50 - $11.25 per week. Over the course of the Summer that can add up to $90.00 - $135.00, that's just for 3 months. How awesome is that?
Not to mention, if you do it right, you will be getting added exercise. Carrying a load of wet laundry all the way out to your yard. Squatting down to pick up each item, don't forget to tighten those buns when you stand up, twisting to put the item on the line and stretching your arms to pin the items. If you wear your bathing suit, you can get some good sun, as well as the fresh air.
I typically set my timer for about a half an hour, so I can check and see if it's ready. I like to get mine off the line before it's entirely dry, then I pop it in the dryer with a dryer sheet for about 10 minutes, so it'll be a bit more fluffy.
If you live in an apartment and can't hang your clothes out, you can use drying racks instead. It takes a bit more time to dry though.
Save money, save energy, get some fresh air and exercise. Yippee!
And I must say, there is something completely satisfying about this old fashioned way of drying your clothes. On a hot summer day, the cool, damp clothes feel good against your skin and it helps you to take a minute, slow down and enjoy the moment.

Have a Fabulous Friday,
oh and Happy May Day!

My River Overfloweth

When your river overflows, here are a few fun things you can do.

1. Seize the day, go take pictures, this doesn't happen everyday.
2. Take a break from your normally scheduled routine and go throw or skip rocks on the water.
3. Play a game of Poohsticks with your children, when was the last time you did that?
4. Put on your Wellies and puddle jump.
5. Take a walk down the road, and be amazed at the field, that is now a lake.
6. Enjoy the day, no matter what you do. Rejoice and be glad!

How To Do 10 Things At Once

Do you ever feel like a juggler in a 3 Ring Circus? The crowd around you is screaming, throw in a watermelon, she can handle it,as the chainsaw whizzes by your head.
Somehow, my normal every day routine, has shifted into a question of, can I really be in 5 places at once? While putting together my to-do list today, I suddenly realized, I have more on my plate than I could possibly chew or swallow for that matter.
How to teach an art lesson, go feed friends animals/chores, go clean the church (my twice a week job), get the boys to youth group, make dinner and possibly take my vehicle to the mechanic? Mind you, all of these are in separate towns. Somebody get my cape?
It's days like these that cause me to skip the ever so important breakfast meal, darn! I was doing so well, too.
Calgon take me away, and don't bring me back! :O

My Apologies!!

Ever have one of those frustrating, I want to throw my computer out the window, kind of days? Yesterday was that day. I didn't post, simply because my computer decided I shouldn't. We have a love/hate relationship, that tends to lean a bit more towards the hate. I like technology, it's great, but somedays more frustrating than it's worth. We live in a rural area, so technologically speaking, we're a bit behind the times. We've recently gone to satellite, dial-up was too slow. But let me just say, although satellite is faster, it's also temperamental. Sometimes it's fast and sometimes I might as well go back to dial-up. So, my apologies for the lack of post yesterday, I did try. I also hope to read everybody's blogs, but it doesn't always happen. :(
Have a splendid day, and may all of your computers cooperate.

P.S. I tried posting a Before picture in the sidelines, and apparently it didn't really shrink it to fit, like it said it would, so it was huge. I will try it again, maybe with a picture from my phone, I don't know. I'll figure something out. Good grief!! :)

Happy As A Lark

On Saturday, I got outside and push mowed my little heart out. It was nice to look around and see that I'd accomplished something. Whew, it is work though, our push mower is a little choppy, so it doesn't do the greatest job and the lack of height makes pushing it around a bit tricky. (you know, leverage and all that)
My husband had gone to town, in search of a riding mower to purchase. About 4 hours later he showed up with the most awesome mower. It's like the Porsche of riding mowers. I was beyond ecstatic!! It has gizmo's and gadgets all over the place, lots of buttons, it might take me a few tries to figure out what they all do. Cruise control, can you believe it, a mower with cruise control and a cup holder. How fancy is that? I immediately shoved aside the push mower, hopped on that baby and gave it a whirl. It purrs like a kitten and mows like a dream. I mowed our large field in no time, with a constant smile plastered on my face. Ahhh, heaven. It's a beautiful thing!! If you've never taken a plush riding mower for a spin, I highly recommend it. You'll be hooked (okay maybe it's just me) but it is somewhat satisfying, to look back at your nicely mowed lawn and know that it will stay that way, for at least a few days.
It has rained almost constantly since that exhilarating ride, so I am anxiously anticipating the moment when girl and mower can reunite. Happy, happy!

Smoke and a Pancake?

My challenge to you dearies and this goes for me too, is to eat a good breakfast, everyday! This may not be a challenge for some of you, but for me, breakfast is something I seem to skip, forget about or just plain get in too much of a hurry to bother with. As I am paying better attention to my daily eating habits, I am noticing some key things and skipping breakfast seems to be one of them. This week I plan to change that and get in a better routine of making something healthy to eat each morning, even if it's just a fruit smoothie.

Don't forget to eat your Wheaties this week! :)

Better Late Than Never

I apologize for posting so late in the day! I am taking care of my friend's goats, chickens, bunnies, dogs and cats, while they're out of town. A chore that requires me to be there early in the morning. I had hoped to get up early and post before heading out the door, but unfortunately sleep won the battle. Not to mention I have tried posting about 4 times so far, and due to the weather, I am having technical difficulties....cross your fingers.

Today is Monday and once again weigh in day. Woohoo! As you might recall, last week I was at
159.6 and today I am at 158.6. One whole pound! yippee! I still would like to see 4 or 5 drop off at a time, but I'm happy that I managed to lose something, especially considering I didn't feel like the week went all that tremendously well. Now for my waist....Okay, so apparently I AM doing something right, my waist is now 34 inches, compare that to last week's 36 inches. Did you hear the overhead "HALLELUJAH" reign down on me? Most excellent!

I'll be honest. Yesterday I was feeling like a bloated cow and was quite worried about my weigh-in today, I thought for sure I'd gained 12 lbs., so I'm quite astounded and happy about the results. It could've been those extra couple of miles we walked. My vehicle decided to die about 4 miles from my house and so the kids and I thought it would be rather adventurous to walk home. Hahaha, after a couple of hilly miles we called for back up. It was quite enjoyable though, as the countryside has turned an Irish green, storm clouds were brewing overhead and we played a lovely game of PoohSticks when we crossed the river. I guess it's been a better week than I realized.

No Bikini's Allowed

Today is the T.G.I.F. and it's Marie's turn, but sadly she was called away on an emergency trip. I don't think she'll have time to post, so I thought I'd fill in. Because I am not totally prepared for this....should have thought ahead, I am going to tell you a story, that will hopefully be a good TIP for you or at least make you smile!!

A couple of years ago, I decided to take a very part-time job at the library, as a Page. I was the one who put away all of the returned books...I loved this job, mostly because I love books and I got to see everything available. Anyway! When putting away books, it's a lot of squatting up and down, bottom shelf, top shelf and so on. I had very recently (before starting this job) purchased a few sassy pairs of bikini underwear. Cute underwear makes me happy, I don't know why! So, I'm putting away books, la-ti-da and going along, no big deal right? I get to the front of the library and I have a large stack of paperbacks to put away, up and down, up and down. Finally, I reach the end of my stack, stand up straight, and holy moly...my fabulous bikini underwear is in a nice roll, no longer on my hiney, but now directly under it, resting at the bottom of my cheeks. Recall, if you will, I was at the very front of the library, the bathrooms were all the way in the back....people in between. There is nothing sexy about a wad of bikini underwear resting snugly under your bum. I decided then and there, that this would be a good time to sidle. Feeling like a Secret Agent on a mission, I kept the wall at my back and looked cautiously around, til I finally made it to the bathroom. No one was the wiser. (I think, I hope!)

Tip for the day:
Squatting and bikini underwear, don't mix. Maybe when I'm thinner this won't be the case, I may give it a whirl, but for now I am back to Industrial Sized Underwear.

Have a truly pleasant weekend. Enjoy a lovely stroll, if weather permits!
That's where I'm headed!

Mow Like The Wind

Somedays, exercise has to be done in another fashion. If you can make it happen and accomplish some large forboding task, then hallelujah. Two birds with one stone, so to speak.

I have a very large mowing area. We tend to mow about 2-3 acres, so we have plenty of walking/playing area. I absolutely love to mow, it's definitely my favorite of all chores. And with a riding mower, it's quite a pleasant task. (I can't hear anyone, I'm way out in the field looking at God's beauty, and the results of it actually last more than 5 minutes..unlike doing the dishes)Although I have 4 teenagers, they rarely get to mow, because quite frankly, given the choice between mowing and doing the dishes, I'd rather mow and let them do the dishes.

Our riding mower has bit the dust. We've used it to death and the poor thing has given all it's got. Time for a new one! Until that can happen, I'll be out mowing with the push mower. Talk about exercise, wooh! It's been awhile since I've pushed a mower around the yard, and
boy-howdy, it will definitely work your arms, legs and cardio. This is a good workout and with most of the yard not yet mowed, I will definitely be getting my exercise. I better go eat my Wheaties, I've got work to do!
What are you going to do today?

40's and Frogs

With my 40th birthday right around the corner, I was thinking about my first post.
I realized I don't need to quickly accomplish everything before I turn 40. I will be 40 for an entire year. Plenty of time to accomplish many things, right?
I have decided I will begin making a list of all of the things I have hoped, dreamed and maybe just wanted to do. It will be a list of 40 things for the year I am 40. Anything from taking a long desired trip to finishing a 10 year quilt. (real desires) I am going to post this list on my birthday and keep a copy of it on my fridge, so I can see it everyday. I'm excited about this, I think it will be a lot of fun to see what I can do in a year. Including, lose 40 lbs. :) yay!!

Frogging! I was searching for a picture I could post of me and my entire body for the "before picture". Apparently, I make it very clear to only take photos of me from the neck up. No such entire body shots were found. But, I did find this picture. (above) To finish my Square Granny bag, I needed more yarn for a handle and I found this unfinished sweater that has been in my knitting basket for who knows how long. I am thinking, I really need to stop making things only half way. I really should set out to finish what I start, and quit starting new projects while I'm in the midst of other lovely projects. I really liked this sweater, but somehow got sidetracked and forgot all about it. I think I may put this in my 40 list....finish what you start and that includes all UFO's!

Today Is a New Day!

Brand spankin' new, with no mistakes in it, yet!! :)
Well, yesterday I fell off the wagon, and it was only Tuesday, what the hoobydoo? I ate chocolate eggs, that I put in a dish on the table, thinking they'd get eaten faster if they were out in the open...well that worked, they got eaten alright...by me!!!! :O How is it, every chocolate thing, knows my name? This really is a weakness for me....can you tell?

I also had two cups of coffee, which I guess is not terrible, although it goes against my Weekly Challenge.

Today is a new day, I will do better, no chocolate, one cup of coffee (already behind me) and lots of water and healthy foods. I am beginning to work on a menu of healthy meals for picky eaters. It's coming along slowly and I think I need to browse the internet a bit more and see if I can find some good recipes. Even if I have to change them a bit more to my liking. I really need to eat healthier, but it's hard when there isn't much in the way of fruits and veggies that I love.

If you have any suggestions, I am wide open!

Thanks!
Hope today is a success for you, too!

My Square Granny: Done

I finished it at last, and now I'm wishing I hadn't given myself a deadline and wished I had taken more time to do a nicer job on it...oh well! Maybe I'll pull out parts and redo it, but surely this won't happen, especially with a million or so UFO's in various places, waiting for me to finish them. Next time, I won't stress myself by trying to be crafty in a limited amount of time. I tend to make things up as I go, and it would've been okay, if it had all worked the way I saw it in my head, but things rarely seem to work that way. Anyway, I did go ahead and take a picture of my
sad, finished product. Fortunately, I had not planned it to be a gift or anything.... Maybe I should've stuck with a simple afghan! :0
Have a splendid day!
Hope your projects are going well!

Carrots, Cupcakes and Exercise

Today's post is going to be short, sweet and to the point. Like me...hahaha!
No seriously! My hub is downloading some sort of something and it's causing our computer to run at a snail's pace. OOBER SLOW!! I'm sure you'll forgive the quickie, I hope. :D

Yesterday I posted a couple of pictures, one of super carrots, made in a seriously cute fabric and another of fabric cupcakes. So sweet! I wanted to let you know where you can find the ladies that made these stinkin' lovely goodies. I want to give credit, where credit is due.
I love the crafty, creativeness of the internet artists. I have found some amazing blogs (now that I have faster internet..hahaha) and it is so awesome to see the beauty that so many create.

Anyway, back on track. The carrots were made by mama anna, the link is:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/81808599@N00/ mama_anna

She is obviously quite busy. Holy cow, lots of cute, fun, crafty items, and not limited to fabric. She has an entire woolly album, too. I didn't take time to do the slide show, although when I can surf a bit faster, I definitely intend to go back.

The sweet cupcakes are from Little Cotton Rabbits blog. She has the cutest, most amazing knitted goodness. I absolutely love looking at those sweet rabbits. (I have a bit of a rabbit fetish)I encourage you to take a look at her site, as well. Here is the link:http://littlecottonrabbits.typepad.co.uk/my_weblog/

I'm done gushing over the cuteness that people are creating all over the world.

Onto exercise, hooray!
For those of us who feel we don't really have time for exercise, there are awesome workout videos/dvd's, called, 10 Minute Solutions. Holy moly, there is something for everyone. I have only tried out the Target Toning for Beginners, but it's fantastic and I'm ready to move on to the next level. I love that it's in 10 minute chunks. If I have more time, energy and motivation then I can do two workouts, in 20 minutes. such as: buns and thighs, or arms and abs. Which is generally what I try to do. If your like me and you get bored fairly quickly and want something different, then these are a great source. I found an awesome website full of these workouts and they're not too pricey either. Here is a link:
http://www.fitnessfly.com/10_Minute_Solutions_DVDs_s/75.htm
Check it out! There's info. about every one of the workouts. Awesome.
I think I'll go for the Fat Blasting Dance dvd, next. I'm not sure how it works, but I'm hoping that while I'm shaking my booty, fat will be blasting off of me. It may take some extra effort to clean up the room afterwards, but it'll be worth it. :)
I'm off to work those abs and arms.

Have a splendid day!
Hope the weather is good in your neighborhood, so you can get out for a bit of a walk.

Waist Not, Want Not!

I, for sure, want not.

Last week, I read that a woman's waist should be 30 inches or smaller, for good health.
I decided I would go ahead and check out my waist size, surely it's not too bad.... right?
Ummm...I did it, here it is: 36 inches. Okay, so I have a few inches to go. I tend to naturally run a bit smaller in the waist area, I have an hourglass figure or should I say, at this point,
a 24 hourglass figure. So much to work on.

Today is also weigh-in day. I'm happy to say that I've lost 1 pound. It's better than nothing right. I'd hoped for a whopping 2-4 pounds, but with the 3 day Easter chocolate episode, what can I expect? My weight: 159.6 lbs.

I will keep tabs on my waistline too. I know there are times when you may not lose pounds, but you may lose inches. I think it's important to keep track of both, don't want to get discouraged. I'm excited to say that, yesterday I put on my chocolate brown pants and they were a bit baggy on me, that's encouraging.
I plan to post a picture of myself too, I need a before picture to compare to later on. Don't worry, I won't be in a bikini, I'm not that brave!
Hope you have a wonderful day.
Carrots

Hey There Sugar!

I am starting a weekly challenge. I know for me, I like a good challenge and tend to do better knowing I have some short term goals that seem fairly achievable. I will post this every Monday, so you will have the whole week to work on it. These will not be limited to foods, or exercise, some will be for your mind and soul. Nothing too heavy (haha) just something different to add to your daily life and hopefully inspire you to try something new or give you new perspective.

This week's challenge is: Give up one food habit that you feel is unhealthy for you.
Examples: Munching at midnight, eating while reading, having meals in front of the T.V., etc.
These are all things I have a tendency to do.

I will be giving up coffee, not entirely, but no more than once a day. I tend to go for it while I am reading, knitting, quilting...pretty much anything I am doing while sitting on my tush! It wouldn't be so bad, except that I put in a lot of sugar and creamer...kind of like a dessert in a cup. I feel this added dose of sugar at various times of the day is probably not helping me much. I will replace that desire for coffee, with a glass of water...maybe with a twist of lemon.

I'd love to hear what you are hoping to give up or change this week. You can do it! :)

P.S. I still haven't had any chocolate...can you believe it? Amazing what you can achieve when you put your mind to it. yippee!!

Super Carrots

As I picked up my latest catalog of Victoria Secrets, I happened to be getting dressed at the same time. I glanced in the mirror at my reflection, in all it's underwear glory, and all my hopes and dreams of being a Supermodel were dashed. As I sat there stunned by this sad revelation, I looked down at my legs, noticing that they're about 12 inches too short. (have I mentioned I'm only 4'11 and 3/4 "s, sigh) I've been trying to convince them to grow these past many years, but they won't budge. Not to mention, they're a bit chunky around the thigh, knee, calf and ankle area. Oh, woe is me! (sigh) I've realized that looking at supermodels at the same time I am looking at myself, pretty much makes me want to hang myself with my underwear!!
I don't recommend it.

Supermodel, Superhero, can't I just be a Super something. To have the word Super in my title somehow, tis a life long dream/fantasy. I guess I need to come up with an alternative that I can live up to.
Oh dash it all!! I think Supergirl is taken, how about Superchick or maybe....Supercarrots. ;D

Something to think about!

End of the Week, How am I doing?

Wow, this week has blown by. I will give you a quick update on how I'm doing on the goals I set.

Drink more water: I've done fairly well in this area, although I'm not sure I ever achieved the 4 tall glasses. I should probably drink less coffee, I've tried to keep it to one cup per day, but it's good stuff. I'll work harder on that.

Exercise/Walk everyday: I have actually done this. Hooray!!! I would like to get more of a variety of work outs to do, too. I saw an ad for the Hip Hop Abs, I'm thinking it looks like fun, I might give that one a shot. I'll check at the library first, maybe they'll have a copy I can borrow. I've found that the library or Netflix is a good source for trying out new workout videos, then if you're in love, you can take the plunge and buy it.

Add Fruits and Veggies: Hmmm...I don't think I've eaten one piece of fruit, I claimed I would make a smoothie and didn't, I have had some veggies though. Green beans last night and .......um, did I mention green beans last night? :D Okay, so this is obviously an area that needs greater work. I will strive to eat more fruits and veggies, this is a journey not a destination. One step at a time.

Be Patient: So far so good, of course it's only been a week. I have fallen off the wagon and gotten a little chocolate on me, oops! But, you'll be happy to hear, I've been chocolate free for 24 hours and I intend to stay that way for an unspecified amount of time. Really! Weigh In is on Monday, so I've got to be good, gaining would be far too humiliating.

Tights in Public: Oh yea, just a fantasy.

So, there you have it, my week in a nutshell.

Have a smashing weekend,

Toodles, Fairwell and all that goodbye stuff.

Til Monday,

Carrots <<<3~

My Square Granny: Day 5

Oh Poop!!! I am a failure, I have failed you, dear readers. :( I said I would finish this project this week, the reason (because I already have U.F.O.'s all over my house). And yet, here it is...Friday and I'm not finished. "Sigh" I am working on it, although I must say the week did not go as planned and time did not allow for me to work on it as much as I'd hoped. (This is the story of my life, how about you?) If you'll bear with me, I will work furiously over the weekend and have a finished project come Monday. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.....

Again, Thanks for your patience and I will try not to disappoint.

Note to self: Don't make pie crust promises: easily made, easily broken.

T.G.I.F.

It's Friday, whoa, what the heck, how did it get here this quick? In my first post, I wrote that on Friday's Marie and I would be trading off with our Tips, Goodies, Inspirations and Frugalness ideas. T.G.I.F. Today is my day.

A few weeks ago I was rearranging my living room and noticed that after moving furniture around, the wainscoating was in huge need of a new paint job. A friend of mine had given me a can of paint about a year ago, that she'd picked up on the sales rack for $5.00. On the lid, the color looked to be a sweet Sage Green. Thinking this would be fantastic with my wallpaper, I grabbed it and started stirring and stirring. Hmmm....not green. More like a washed out yellow.

Being on a budget and knowing I could make this happen, I was not about to make a 40 minute trip to the store and spend money, when I had a perfectly good can of paint in front of me. I dug through my trunk of acrylic paints and found a few that I thought would help me achieve the color I wanted. Black, Royal Blue, Bright Yellow. I squirted a little in and kept stirring. It resulted in a fantastic Sage-ish Green color, that matches perfectly to my wallpaper. I love it so much, I am planning to use the rest of it to paint my dining room.

So, my Tip of Frugalness for this week is, before you run to the Hardware store and spend $20.00 or so dollars on a gallon of paint, look around see what you have and improvise. It's like being a kid again, fingerpainting and swirling all your colors together. It's fun to see what you can come up with, then give it a "flashy" name and when people ask what color your wall is, you can say, oh it's Sage and Celery. Pretty flashy, huh? :)

P.S. An extra tip, if you want the color to be a bit muted, add black. Do it slowly, while you stir, this will help to tone it down a notch.
